President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, FTAN, Dr Aliyu Badaki has commended the management of Wavecrest College of Hospitality Lagos on the groundbreaking ceremony of the Wavecrest Hospitality Skills and Enterprise Development Centre of Excellence (HSEDCE).

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Badaki stated that the Lagos-based hospitality training school is a pride to the hospitality industry in Nigeria.

He noted that with Wavecrest College, the hospitality industry will not lack trained manpower personnel needed for the sector.

The school owned by Women’s Board Educational Cooperation Society (WB-ECS), a not-for-profit

Organisation, committed to empowering Nigerian women through quality education and economic opportunities

established in 1972.

WB-ECS has established several long-term projects in five states of the federation.

The College recently got a grant from the AUDA-NEPAD and KfW-sponsored project under the Skills for Africa Initiative (SIFA) to expand its premises by constructing and equipping an ultra-modern facility, which will serve as a training ground for training women from the underserved

community in the National Skills Qualification (NSQ).

Over the years, Wavecrest College has trained over 3,000

young women, especially from underserved communities, with industry-relevant hospitality skills, paving the way

for self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and professional success.

The school management expressed optimism that with the expansion, Wavecrest College will reach more people

And get more people trained in hospitality skills.

Wavecrest Hospitality Skills and Enterprise Development Centre of Excellence, Wavecrest HSEDCE, was approved in 2023; thereafter, the preparation of all necessary documentations and selection of contractors for the construction work commenced.

The successful bidder, Telisol Limited, took possession of the site on July 14 2025 and this was followed by the planning of a groundbreaking event to commemorate the beginning of this visionary project aimed at expanding impact and empowering more women.

The groundbreaking ceremony was a significant milestone in the school journey to transform lives through skill development.

Wavecrest – HSEDCE is projected to directly benefit over 3,000 women in its first three – five years. Over 60% are

expected to become entrepreneurs, while others will enter Nigeria’s rapidly growing hospitality workforce,

uplifting families, strengthening communities, and contributing to national growth.
