Celebration: God’s Kingdom Society makes giant strides in Accra

The glitz and excitement of the annual celebration of Freedom Day in Accra, Ghana held between Tuesday, October 14 and Monday, October 20, 2025, was reminiscent of the recent annual Youth Fellowship Assembly.

It was perhaps more of a precursor to the Annual Christian Feast of Tabernacles of the God’s Kingdom Society (The Church of the Living God)

The Freedom Day celebration is a yearly event in the annals of the Church to commemorate the birth anniversary of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who was born in the month of October over two thousand years ago.

For the second successive season, under the direction of the Executive Board, The Foreign Evangelism Support Group, a charity group of God’s Kingdom Society, whose Coordinator, Brother Godwin Chuka Osifo, also Chairman of GKS Canada Branch, was responsible for the smooth organisation of the event, with the provision of free accommodation and feeding for all the delegates.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a series of pre-event ceremonies had begun early with a seminar by the GKS Women Fellowship, which was declared open by a Senior Minister of the Church, Brother Joshua Chukwudi, a member of the Executive Board.

… Call for women to embrace decency, modesty

In his opening remarks, he counselled the womenfolk on the need to embrace decency, orderliness and a disposition to acquire the true knowledge of God that would lead them to salvation in Kingdom of God here on earth; citing the Holy Bible to buttress his talk.

As the seminar dissolved into a working session, the Chairperson of the GKS Women Fellowship Committee (Nigeria and Abroad), Sister Cindy Igba-Ujene, presiding in this exclusive female gathering, addressed the participants on the theme: “It is Good to Be Zealously Affected Always in a Good Thing.”

She posited that the theme of the conference was a call for the womenfolk to reflect on godly virtues that would create positive impact and benefits to broader segments of the population, groups, organisations and society at large.

Sister Igba-Ujene went to charge feminine worshippers that some ungodly business owners have fallen into sharp practices in their desperation to make profits at all costs, thereby pushing aside the law of God for their own selfish interests. She said that some people defraud their customers by selling sub-standard, harmful and dangerous products to them, others repackage expired or banned items for sale.

The woman leader warned the august gathering against soiling their hard-earned reputation in engaging in corruption, infidelity, alcoholism, drug abuse, smoking, prostitution, adultery, fornication, lesbianism, idleness, gambling, online betting, tattoos and multiple piercings of the body.

… truth and righteousness

Earlier, Sister Faith Iriferi of the Lord’s Ministry exhorting on the subject, “Minding Spiritual Things as Christian Women Indeed,” summarised and contextualised her talk as “prioritising something because of its utmost importance.” She submitted that spiritual things which answer to “truth and righteousness”, bring enduring rewards from God Almighty to His faithful worshippers.

She maintained that Christ-like virtues of faith, love, patience, prayer, obedience, steadfastness and dedication to God’s service as well as service to humanity are vital qualities a true Christian woman should imbibe and put into use in her daily life, she concluded. Look up Galatians 5: 22,23; Hebrews 10:35, 36, 38, 39; 11:6; Titus 2:3-5; 1 Peter 3:1-6, etc.

… women subject to men

The third presentation in this Christian women seminar was entitled: “Customs and Traditions of the God’s Kingdom Society” by Sister Charity Chukwumah, a seasoned member of the GKS Women Fellowship Committee, (Nigeria and Abroad), who told the Christian women that as a rule in the Church, sisters (womenfolk) are subject to brothers (menfolk) citing 1 Corinthians 11:3. She enjoined women to be supportive of the headship of their husbands, irrespective of the elevated social economic standing of the woman.

Sister Chukwumah urged her fellow sisters in Christ to be knowledgeable enough in the word of God through studies of the Holy Bible, sermons of the Church, knowledge of the ten fundamental truths, the Organisation Instructions of the Church and publications that would be beneficial to them and their children as they grow in the nurture, fear and admonition of in the LORD, making reference to 2 Thessalonians 2:15.

In conclusion, the speaker, a qualified medical officer, advised the younger ones to avoid trial marriages, sinful attractions and other immoral activities as they are immature and unprepared to withstand the burdens of these awkward lifestyles.

… health talk

The last paper was a health talk on the “Ear Infections: Prevention and Care”.  Sister (Dr) Venessa Leghemo did justice to it by stating from the outset that the ear is a sensitive hearing organ situated on both sides of the head, made up of the outer, middle and inner portions. The ears overlap and are interconnected with other parts of the body like the brain and heart to function optimally.

Dr Leghemo traced signs and symptoms of ear infections and probable problems to, though not limited to, pains, ringing sounds, echoes, impairment or reduction in hearing.  Amongst children, the manifestations include incessant crying, restlessness, fever, loss of appetite, detachment, etc.

The lecture drew a lot of attention as the medical doctor delved into science and simple methods to keep the ear healthy. She proffered the following solutions: “Vaccination; exclusive breastfeeding; avoid nose blowing, abstain from slapping or hitting on the head or across the face as any form of slap or trauma can easily rapture or damage the ear drum”. Others include: “Keeping the ear dry by avoiding water droplets into the ear, do not use foreign objects like cotton buds, matches, sticks, wools, tissues, etc to clean or clear the ear”.

The expert identified other solutions, safe practices and precautions to include:

  • Proper attention to the treatment of cough and catarrh especially in children to avoid damage to the tube connecting the ear to the nose.
  • Avoid smoking (primary), as direct smoker or exposure to smoking (secondary), being within the environment of smokers and inhaling the smoke.
  • Stay away from loud speakers or high noise.
  • Use of earphones, earpieces, should be moderated to 60% in volume and use for a 6-hour period and lay off for another 6-hour period in a day.
  • Hydration: Take good quantity of water daily to keep the body fresh.
  • Avoid self-medication, especially the resort to use of antibiotics, without prescription, which can cause complications.
  • Visit or consult with your doctor, preferably a specialist, after two to three days of noticing ear related discomfort.

The seminar for the Christian women ended with an instructive, educative and enriching question-and-answer session to the glory of God.

… Conducting business under God’s guidance

On Thursday morning, the programme, started with a Business Seminar entitled: “Doing Business in the Fear of God” where Brother Benjamin Onaghise, Chairman of GKS Accra Branch, pointed out that Ghana, like Nigeria, is an attractive investment hub for foreigners who are eager of doing business in the country. He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the government liberalisation policies in business through a centralised, less cumbersome process of registration of small, medium and large-scale business entities, including limited liability enterprises.

Brother Onaghise stated that in any business environment, the fear of God is a hallmark for the enterprise to flourish, without ruling out the introduction of some safety measures, checks and balances that are purposely designed to forestall malpractices and protect the business integrity of any country.

… open lectures

In the evening, there were series of open Bible lectures by Ministers of the gospel and elders of the Church in a two-day spell for the enlightenment of the sheep of God, with Brother Ebo Alli, a minister, talking on “God’s Kingdom – The Only Hope of Suffering Humanity”.

He made his listeners know that human governments of all descriptions (democracy, military rule, capitalism, socialism, welfarism, etc.) have failed to meet the yearnings and aspirations of mankind for a safe and peaceful world.

He did not mince his words to point out that it is only in the Kingdom of God here on earth, that there would no hunger, oppression, corruption, sickness, wars, conflicts or deaths.

Concluding, he said, it is because this divine arrangement remains the hope of suffering humanity, hence it is designated in the Bible as “the desire of all nations”. Please look up Psalm 37:9-11, 46:9; Isaiah 25:6,7; 33:24; 35:5,6, 65:17-25; Revelation 21:4,5, etc.

The second sermon was: “Is the soul Immortal?” was handled by another minister, Brother Andrew Ekerighwo. From the start, he wasted no time to point out that the teaching on immortality of the soul was a costly lie, a false teaching invented by Satan the devil to deceive mankind. The preacher said the genesis of this teaching was Satan’s counter to the law of God to Adam not to eat a particular fruit lest he die.

But the Devil in the guise of a serpent told the woman, Eve, “that ye shall not surely die”.  (Genesis 2:16,17; 3:1-5,16-19). It is this deceit of the Devil that gave rise to the teaching that the soul can never die.

Minister Ekireghwo stated that the soul is the breath of life, possessed by all living organisms – man and animals. He quoted the scriptures extensively to substantiate his claim. See Genesis 2:7; 46:26,27; Numbers 31:28; Ecclesiastes 3:18-20.

He ended the sermon with an emphatic statement from the Holy Bible that “the soul that sinneth, it shall die”, the words of Ezekiel the prophet in Ezekiel 18:4,20. See also Mark 8:36,37. Psalm 22:29; 89:48; etc.

On Friday, October 17, 2025, there was another seminar at the HR  Residence Hall, Dansoman, Accra, where Brother (Professor) Clem Edokpayi, Vice-Chairman, GKS Canada Branch and Consultant, Marine Ecology Environmental Management, gave an enlightening talk on the topic, “It is Time to Worship God in Spirit and in Truth”.  He fittingly acknowledged that the topic was drawn from the words of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ recorded in the book of John 4:24.

The university teacher spoke of several transcendental dimensions of worship in today’s world, calling for a distinct place which resonates with true knowledge through study of the Holy Bible, cultivating the Spirit of God for guidance quoting richly the words of Apostle Paul in Romans 12:1,2 and Ephesians 5:15-18.

He further charged his listeners to make conscious effort to avoid vain or ritualistic disposition in worship noting that God will judge His worshippers in righteousness. Please see Romans 10:2,3; 13:11; Proverbs 3:5-7; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 1 John 2:14-17.

While, in the evening, at the scheduled Bible lecture held at the same venue, Minister Oghenetejiri Uwejeyan spoke on; “Is Heaven for All the Faithful?” He explained that God’s Kingdom, also called the Kingdom of Heaven, because the authority and rulership come from Mouth Zion in heaven, the capital of the kingdom and dwelling place of the Almighty God, His Son, Jesus Christ, the saints numbering 144,000 and the innumerable company of angels. – Isaiah 66:1; Acts 7:56,57; Luke 22:28-30, Hebrews 12:22,23.

In conclusion, he stated that the Holy Bible makes it abundantly clear that God did not create the earth in vain, but to be inhabited by the meek in God’s Kingdom fully established by the grace of God. – Isaiah 45:12,18; Mouth Zion in Heaven Psalm 37:9,11,22,29,34; Matthew 5:5.

The final topic in the Bible lectures had this sensational title: “Are Women Ordained by God to Preach the Gospel?” It was taken by Brother Timothy Esimagbele, Station Minister, GKS Accra, Ghana who stated that women are regarded “joint heirs” in the Kingdom of God, women would be blessed if they continue in good works and support the gospel. – Titus 2:3-5. Matthew 26:6-13; Luke 8:1-3.

But in his usual uncompromising manner, the Minister unequivocally affirmed that it would be presumptuous for women to assume to be a pastor, evangelist, preacher of God’s word, high spiritual positions, the Almighty God has exclusively reserved for men. (1 Corinthians 14:34,35; 1 Timothy 2:11-15) He said the Almighty Father had never ordained any woman into the office a bishop, or prophet to the nations. – Exodus 5:20; Numbers 12:1-13; Isaiah 3:12; Matthew 10:1-7, etc.

… tour of Aburi

On the weekend of the celebration, the Christian participants were treated by their Ghanaian hosts on a tour of “The Aburi Garden” which they claim would be of interest to Nigerians for its unique role as a place where the then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon and the then Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu signed the “Aburi Accord” in 1967 to prevent a civil war in Nigeria. It was in this peace meeting that Colonel Ojukwu popularised the slogan, “On Aburi We Stand”.

There was also an international Bible quiz competition featuring members from Benin Republic, Togo, Liberia, Nigeria and host Ghana. At the end, it was Republic of Benin that carted home the trophy and a cash prize of one hundred US dollars.

… grand finale

The grand finale of the celebration was on Sunday, October 19, 2025 with a lively and highly entertaining atmosphere with rich spiritual songs to herald the commencement of the Freedom Day Divine Service, where Brother Joshua Chukwwudi officiated well to the glory of God.

After his lively opening remarks, he invited Brother Ebo Alli to take the sermon, “Was Christ Born on Christmas Day?” In a concise and lucid delivery, he restated the Church’s position that Jesus Christ was born in the month of OCTOBER over 2000 years ago and not in December as wrongly held in Christendom.

Brother Alli dug deep into Bible Chronology, climate in Palestine at the time of Christ’s birth and historical facts to prove that our Lord Jesus was born in October not on the 25th of December known as Christmas Day. He read copiously from the Holy Bible (1 Chronicles 24:1-19; Luke 1:5-57) supported by other religious and secular writings.

Charge by Church Leader

The crowning glory of the celebration was the address of the President of the Church, Brother Felix Ekundayo Adedokun, entitled: “The Just Shall Live by Faith”.  Adedokun urged Christians to always exercise strong faith in God Almighty so as to survive these perilous times, when the Devil is intensifying his onslaught against the truth of the gospel and practice of righteousness.

The Church leader strongly opined that faith is a sine qua non for all sincere worshippers of God as demonstrated by many of His servants and maidens of old like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all the prophets of God and for women like Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth who reposed their trust in the LORD, He made them “to be joyful mother of children”. – Psalm 113:9; Hebrews 11:6.

… goodwill messages

Good will messages from Bro. Professor Hope Eghagha and Abednego Harbor, Chairman and Secretary of the Laity of the Church, Brother Precious Ejenake, National Youth Fellowship Chairman and others were read.

The celebration featured cultural and musical performances, and a fund-raising to assist members of GKS Accra Branch for this year’s annual Feast of Tabernacles holding in Salem City, Warri, Delta State, Nigeria from Sunday December 14 to Sunday December 21, 2025 by the grace of God. The sum of four Million, five hundred thousand naira and two hundred and fifty dollars was realised.

In his closing charge, the officiating Minister, Brother Joshua Chukwudi, exhorted all celebrants to remain steadfast, circumspect of falling into errors and grounded in true knowledge of Almighty God so as to “hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end”. – Hebrews 3:14; 2 Peter 3:17,18.
